Why "no upload" matters
Most online file converters work by uploading your file to their server, processing it there, and sending the result back. That model has real problems.
What does "no upload" actually mean?
A no-upload tool downloads its processing code to your browser and runs it on your own CPU, so the file itself never crosses the network. You can verify it yourself: load any StaysPrivate tool, disconnect your internet, and it keeps working. Uploading converters, by contrast, hold your file on their servers — sometimes for up to 24 hours.
Where do your files go on a normal converter site?
Onto that company’s servers. For example, as of August 2026 CloudConvert’s own privacy policy states uploaded files can remain on its servers for up to 24 hours and that usage data including IP addresses is logged for 180 days. Zamzar’s free tier similarly stores uploads on its servers and caps files at 50 MB. That may be fine for a meme — it is a real decision for a bank statement, a contract or private emails.
Why do free converters have size limits and queues?
Because every uploaded file costs the operator bandwidth, storage and compute — free tiers cap you at 50–100 MB and a couple of conversions per day, then make you wait in line. When your own device does the work, none of that is necessary, which is why StaysPrivate tools have no size limits and no queues.
How do StaysPrivate tools work instead?
Each tool page downloads a small piece of processing code that runs inside your browser. Your file is opened locally, transformed locally, and saved locally. Nothing about the file — not its name, size or contents — is transmitted to us or anyone else.
What can StaysPrivate see?
Anonymous, cookie-free page-view counts — that is all. We cannot see your files, their names or their contents; they are never sent to us.
