How do you save a Motion Photo as a video?
A Motion Photo is one JPEG or HEIC file with a short MP4 video stored after the still image. On the phone that took it, open the photo in Samsung Gallery or Google Photos, open the ⋮ menu, choose Export and pick Video — one photo at a time. How to save a Motion Photo as a video on a Samsung phone
- Open the photo in the Gallery app.
- Tap the ⋮ (three dots) menu.
- Tap Export, then choose Video (or GIF).
- The video is saved to your Gallery as a separate file.
Menu wording varies a little between One UI versions. When you share a Motion Photo, Samsung also offers to send it as a video file. Export works one photo at a time, which gets slow for an album.

- Tap More (⋮).
- Tap Export, choose Video, then tap Export again.

Why the video disappears when you send a Motion Photo
The clip lives at the end of the image file. Messaging apps and many social and cloud services re-save photos as ordinary images when you send or upload them, and that drops everything after the still image — including the video. If a photo arrives without its motion, the clip was usually removed on the way. To keep it, copy the original file with a USB cable or a file-sharing method that sends files unchanged, or use your phone's "share as video" option.
Why some photos have no video in them
If this page reports that a photo has no hidden video, the phone never saved one. Samsung says Motion Photo switches itself off in high-resolution modes such as 50MP and 200MP, and in Portrait, Panorama and Hyperlapse modes, and it can stop saving clips when storage is almost full.
